Sicily's Archeological Sites
Legacy of Ancient Cultures. A Great Pride.
VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES
The archaeological park is vast. Once the heart of Ancient Akragas, it was one of Sicily's wealthiest and most influential cities. The park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and boasted one of the best-preserved Greek temples in history, the Temple of Concord.
SEGESTA
The temple of Segesta, dating back to the fifth century BC, is remarkably well preserved. The impressive and unique appearance will encourage you to imagine when this place was animated by people from an ancient era. Near the temple, on Monte Barbaro, there is the theater. Its strategic position allows you to admire the exceptional panorama of the hill and the sea.
SELINUNTE
Selinunte is the most important archaeological park in Europe. The strategic position on the coast has allowed the ancient city to be one of the essential ports in Sicily. An extraordinary example of the fusion of Phoenician and Greek culture, the town was unfortunately destroyed by the Carthaginians in 409 BC.
VILLA ROMANA DEL CASALE
Villa Romana del Casale is one of the most beautiful archaeological attractions in Sicily, thanks to the exceptional mosaics that decorate the rooms and apartments, which have been preserved over the centuries.
SYRACUSE'S ARCHEILOGICAL PARK
The park vaunts the Greek theater, a great example of ancient Greek architecture. Not to be missed is the Ear of Dionysus, an artificial cave carved into the limestone. Its particular shape allows amplifying the sounds up to sixteen times, producing a powerful echo.
PANTALICA
The archaeological park is the largest necropolis in Sicily. The site has limestone walls, where both natural and artificial caves are easily visible, remains of numerous tombs, houses. The site is located on a plateau, surrounded by canyons formed over the millennia by two rivers, the Anapo and the Calcinara.
